Message  FM and Internet Radio Program Focuses on the Music of Brazil 1850-1930 *****

UMass Dartmouth Prof. of Brazilian Studies and WUMD DJ Dario Borim announces a special edition of his weekly radio show, Brazilliance: Music, Facts & Fictions of Brazil 1850-1930. The program contemplates works written during a transitional period of enormous political and economic changes, from the slave- traffic prohibition law to the onset of Vargas propagandistic regime. The show will draw on a socio-historical panorama, discuss fiction passages dealing with music, and feature recording samplings of choros, lundus, maxixes, modinhas, polkas, tangos, valsas, and much more, by composers such as Joaquim Callado, Carlos Gomes, Chiquinha Gonzaga, Pixinguinha, Benedito Lacerda, Anacleto de Medeiros, Ernesto Nazareth, Lina Pesce, Pattapio Silva, and Heitor Villa-Lobos. Tune in for the live broadcasting and streamlining on Thursday, February 22, 2007, 3:00-6:00 PM (EST), on 89.3 FM, in Mass and Rhode Island, and at www.893wumd.org, around the world. For more information or CD copies of the program, write to Dario Borim at dborim@umassd.edu.
