Hi,
My family is going to Rio for a year or two. We will need to arrange full time (5 days/week) child care for our 2.5 year old, however I cannot find ANY information on the subject. We will be staying in either Ipanema or Leblon. I would be REALY greatful for any information available: good nurseries in the area, respectful nanny agencies, or any other general information on how people are dealing with child care issues.
Many, many thanks,
Olga

For reasons perhaps related to the culture and/or to the labor market, many people prefer nannies to child care. Usually people find their nannies through personal contacts. If you are coming down with a company, you may want to check with your soon-to-be colleagues. If you are using a relocation agency, it should be able to help.
There's a website that lists some nanny placement services, but we know nothing about the site itself nor about the individual companies listed there. This is a tip, not a recommendation. Do your own due diligence. Here's the link: http://www.soubaba.com.br/bestofbrasil.htm

Many thanks for advice. I would personally prefer a safe nursery, but I guess I'll have to investigate this option as well.
