My wife and I have the chance to visit Sao Paulo this February 2006. May we ask your advice? We would like to take dance lessons in samba and, if time, tango. Do you know of any dance academies in the area of the Hilton [ Av. das Nacoes Unidas , 12901] or the Transamerica Hotel [av. nacoes unidas 18591 ] that you could recommend to us? Even wilder idea? Do you know of any dance bed-and-breakfast hotels in Sao Paulo where we might stay and focus on samba and/or tango? For example, we've stayed twice in Buenos Aires at: www.mansiondandiroyal.com We went from knowing nothing about tango to where we can finish a song without stopping, crashing or fighting. Your advice would be much appreciated. Sincerely, Fred

I'm not aware of any samba-theme B&Bs anywhere in Brazil. I wrote about one of the pioneer tango B&Bs in San Telmo fro Latin Trade magazine, but there seems to be no equivalente here - or perhaps anywhere in the world.
There is a pretty cool, centrally-located B&B in São Paulo that I like to recommend: Pousada Dona Ziláh http://www.zilah.com
As for samba lessons, I'll see if some of our travel agent friends can help. If you want to take the initiative and contact them, check out our listings: http://www.brazilmax.com/com_channel.cfm/tborigem/cc_trlistings
