After a hiatus of a couple of years and a couple of member changes, the Raimundos came out with some new stuff last February. Available for download in mp3 on the MTV Brasil website: http://mtv.terra.com.br/raimundos/

The music is old school, I know, but I loaned out some records from the 70's and never got them back. One group that I particularly miss is Banda de Pau e Corda and the traditional music of the Nordeste that they revived. Does anybody know where to get their music (or music of that genre/era) on CD?

Thanks.

A friend here in the San Francisco Bay area asked for advice on his first trip to Brazil.

Since I write on travel with a focus on those with limited mobility or some other disability (www.RollingRains.com) I put some ideas together and published it as "Brazil for Beginers". Here it is for anyone interested in a place to start thinking about visiting Brazil:

I was only just introduced to the charming "Kitchen Sisters" program on NPR this week by accident. Frankly, the idea of listening to a radio program about kitchens - "hidden kitchens" at that - caused me to make a mental note to turn off the radio once the program started.

However somewhere out of the background noise one day I heard someone say "Pão de Queijo" on the radio. I was fascinated to hear about a woman named Janete creating community for San Francisco's Brazilian taxi drivers. Here's the story:

Reading BrazilMax OnTime, I understand Joanna Macy is giving presentations in Brazil. Is anyone attending? I would love to hear how the workshops are going.

The Brazilian Government, through the Brazilian Air Force, has finally decided to come forward and recognize the UFO research as a genuine activity as a direct result of the intense pressure made by the campaign UFOs: Freedom of Information Now, a movement started by the Brazilian UFO Magazine in April 2004. The campaign was launched by the Brazilian Committee of UFO Researchers (CBU), composed of 6 UFO civilian researchers: Claudeir Covo, Marco Petit, Rafael Cury, Reginaldo de Athayde, Fernando Ramalho and A. J. Gevaerd (Athayde was sick an replaced by new interim member veteran UFO researcher Roberto Affonso Back) Details of the campaign both in Portuguese and in English can be consulted at: www.ufo.com.br and www.ufo.com.br/secrecy.php

In traveling in Brazil, it was hard not to notice the many feral canines roaming....Are there groups or organizations that are trying to remedy this problem?

I'm planning a “Surfing Safari” in South America in the near future. Where are some of the hot sports to surf in Brazil? What time of the year is the best to surf Brazil? I'm looking for BIG WAVES not BIG CROWDS! COWABUNGA!

There's surfing all along the Brazilian coast, but most people generally say the waves are best in Santa Catarina. For starters, check out Praia do Rosa: http://www.brazilmax.com/news1.cfm/tborigem/pl_south/id/2

Capitão David seems like a pretty interesting dude. Santa Cantarina looks like a awesome break. Where is Santa Cantarina located in Brazil? Near any big cities? Any other interesting stuff happening around there?
