I read the article in brazilmax about the trash problem in Bahia: http://www.brazilmax.com/news2.cfm/tborigem/pl_beaches/id/1
It's really distressing to hear and I hope Fabiano Prado Barreto's project can alleviate some of the problems. Some friends and myself may be taking a trip to Bahia. I was wondering what are good spots to visit. I'm a musician and my friend is a painter and I know Bahia is home to many artists and has an arts scene.

have found your site quite useful and now wondering if you could help me with some information, im a 28 year old british tourist travelling south america by motorbike and im currently in the northeast corner of brazil in pipa. my plan is to ride along the coast until belem then hopefully get myself and my bike on a boat to manaus, from there ill ride on up to venezuela and tour there for a few months. my problem is, i dont really feel comfortable riding a motorbike around alot of columbia due to recent items in the news and colubia´s past reputation. so the only way to carry on with my tour is to head back down to brazil and use the river´s for transport to peru, from what i read this is totally possible if you´re just a passenger but dont know if im gonna be able to do it with my motorbike. as far as i can see the routes going to take me belem - manaus, no problems with that. upto venezuela then back to manaus, manaus - tabatinga, tabatinga - across boarder to santa rosa in peru, santa rosa - iquitos (peru), iquitos - pucallpa (peru) before i can join a highway. if theres any help at all you could offer me for my trip i would be sincerely grateful.

I don't have any official information, perhaps there isn't any, but based on my own personal experience the Recreios, the riverboats cum fluvial buses (the ones where people hang hammocks from the rafters) all transport cargo in addition to passengers. I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to negotiate with someone to transport your bike. Good luck. Bill Hinchberger Editor BrazilMax

I'm spending a year abroad at UFMG right now in BH and about to wrap up my B.A. in Minnesota pretty soon. Having the time of my life down here (as I'm sure you can see from the picture) and now just trying to figure how to never have to leave.
I'm sure you get this a million times, but you wouldn't happen to have any suggestions on getting a Carteira de Trabalho down here or on how to get employed by an American firm in Brazil? Where would be the best place for me to start looking? I'm getting a B.A. in International Relations and Spanish-Portuguese Studies and speak a very fluent Portuguese (as well as a few other languages). I know how extremely difficult it is to get a residence or work permit down here and thought you might have some advice.

If you don't mind expat brats, you may want to look into trying to hook on with one of the American schools as a teacher. Best to get hired abroad. Pay is less for local hires. I understand that they have an annual recruiting fair. Ask at your college job service. Also try Transitions Abroad: http://www.transitionsabroad.com As for American companies, try Amcham: http://www.amcham.com.br If you have some cash and don't mind having your soul sullied, you may want to find a competent despachante for help on the visa front.

Hi there!
I came across your website whilst looking for music production schools in Brazil (great stuff!). I am having real trouble getting the information I need on the net. I wonder if you have any pointers or could recommend any places yourself. It should be ok if the courses are taught in Portugese as I speak spanish and am planning to get out there for at least two months before I start studying to learn the language.
Thank you in advance for any asistance you may be able to offer.
