Letter from Manaus by Mark Aitchison

columnist bio

Mark Aitchison is a former innkeeper from Eastham, Massachusetts, and is now director of Swallows and Amazons Tours of Manaus, Brazil. Mark is married to a local girl, Tania, and they have 2 daughters, Kelly and Stephanie. Mark graduated from Bennington College in Vermont in 1985 with a degree in Latin American Literature. Besides writing about Amazonian history and culture for BrazilMax and the Amazonian Literary Review, Mark is a published short story writer, novelist, screenwriter, filmmaker and painter. He even finds time to play the saxophone, which, believe it or not, is a very popular instrument in the Brazilian Amazon.
